a fundraiser for Nueva Vida, Osteria Piccoli, Merida

Terry Tatje of the Merida Men´s Club has come up with a fundraising idea -

He plans to arrange a monthly dinner at various restaurants around town.
Each month a different restaurant and a different local charity will be featured.

The first planned dinner was Wednesday December 4th at  Osteria Piccoli , with Nueva Vida selected as the first charity recipient.

For info on future events you can contact Terry at tatatje@yahoo.com.mx
or by phone 943-3830.

Now, let's look at a few fotos from our event, and I do apologize I completely neglected to take food fotos, and the food was very good!

A BIG Thank You to everyone who attended,
and especially to Terry and the Owners and Staff at Piccoli.

 It was a lovely evening

just FYI -  Osteria Piccoli (Italian Restaurant)
 Is located on Prolongacion Montejo,
   Calle 30 #112 x 23 y 25 Col Mexico,  Merida

These girls are not singing the blues

Maintenance of these old cement and stone houses is quite a challenge.  Thank Goodness for the fabulous volunteers.  They are absolutely amazing, they come and scrape, and prep, and paint, and clean up.

And just look how pretty

The girls just love all the clean fresh new rooms.

This time it was dining room and kitchen.

Thank you so much!
You are all AWESOME!!!!!!

the girls of Nueva Vida need a Math Tutor

Good Morning friends of Nueva Vida!

The girls at Nueva Vida are struggling with conceptual math.  They are learning how to perform a task in math, but are missing the how to reason and deduce part.   for example, if you ask how much is left if you take 9999 away from 10000?  They can write it out, and perform the subtraction, but don't seem to have the concept of logical deduction

If you or someone you know can volunteer as a math tutor to help them with conceptual and deductive reasoning  at Estancia Nueva Vida a couple of days a week, it would really be fabulous.

The math tutor must speak fluent Spanish, English is not required for this position (other positions don't require Spanish).

This is really important as some of the girls are really struggling with math and they need an understanding and caring person to help them move ahead. We are talking 4th grade to 6th grade level. The girls take their work seriously so please reach out if you know of anyone.

Please contact  "Patricia (Tricia) Pipkin" <pjpipkin@mac.com>, or  99-99-03-52-97

Thanks so much and have a great day!

Halloween at Nueva Vida, 2013

18 October 2013

We had our Halloween Celebration for the girls at Nueva Vida yesterday.
A little early this year, but next Friday they are off school so you fit these things in when you can.

As you can probably imagine getting 24 girls corralled, and listening to instruction can be, well, interesting.  But Tricia does a fabulous job!

The girls got dressed in costumes and faces painted.

We play games;

Pin the Nose on the Witch,

Ghost Toss,

grabbing a moving donut on a string with only your mouth,

and of course apple bobbing,
which is really difficult when you are 6, 7, or 8
and missing your two front teeth.

And of course the Trick or Treating - they had 4 stops for candy

And then there was cake -

we also celebrated the October birthdays of
maestro Brian, Vanessa, and Eskarlet.

unfortunately we didn't taken the group foto till after the games,
and a lot of the cute facepainting got wiped off after the apple dunking.
